Scholar events are hosted by the South Dakota Humanities Council, an organization I have represented since 2017. Through this avenue, you are able to book several options including the One Book South Dakota, book discussions using previous years’ books, and writing workshops. Booking a scholar event through the SD Humanities Council is a great choice because it covers any applicable materials and the speaker fee for the registrants, all for a $50 grant fee.
The first option is the One Book South Dakota event. This includes copies of the One Book sent directly to the applicant’s address as well as my speaker fee.
The second option is The Book Club to Go event, where we work through a book of your choice from years past. This is done similar to the One Book event, but you get to select your book choice.
The third option is to apply for the writing workshop through the Speakers Bureau, where they will cover my speaker fee and the participants will not have any additional costs incurred.
During your application process, you will be able to select which option works best for you. You are able to do more than one event per year, and all of these options are available year-round to suit the needs of your venue.
